It was gathered that the Inspector had so much trust in Corporal Tosin that he entrusted him with his Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card, when he fell ill, and asked him to help withdraw some money for him but Tosin continued to use the victim’s card to withdraw money in bits from the account till the crime was detected by Shuaib and he reprimanded his subordinate for the act of betrayal.
Angered by the admonition on his behaviour, Tosin decided to murder his boss and got his opportunity when Shuaib was defecating and shot him dead » with an AK-47 rifle and buried him at the back of a police barracks.
After some days without setting eyes on the deceased, his sister, Sherifat Hammed, was said to have reported to the Osi Police Station on May 10, 2016, that Shuaib had been missing since May 6, telling the police she suspected Tosin because her elder brother informed her when he was sick that he entrusted his ATM card to the suspect to help him in withdrawing money.
The State Commissioner of Police, Sam Okaula, while confirming the sad incident, said when the matter was brought to his attention, he ordered a discreet investigation and the result pointed at the suspect who was arrested and during interrogation, Tosin confessed to the crime and was dismissed.
The suspect was arraigned on Tuesday, June 7, before a Magistrates’ Court in Ilorin, and the First Information Report (FIR) noted that the suspect buried the late inspector at the back of the Osi Police Barracks.
“Investigation conducted at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin, revealed that on May 6 at about 10pm, while Inspector Lateef Shuaib was defecating inside the bush, very close to the barracks at the Osi Police Station, you Daramola Tosin, callously and viciously, traced him to the bush and shot him with your AK-47 rifle that led to his untimely death and you later buried him inside the bush at the back of Osi Police Barracks without the knowledge of anybody,” the report stated.
