Ghanaian activist in hot water after ‘slapping journalist’

An activist for Ghana’s ruling party has found herself at the centre of a media storm for allegedly slapping a journalist – and then defending her actions by saying the woman looked like an “onion seller”.

According to Ghana’s CitiNews, Hajia Fati attacked the journalist last week as she tried to take her picture.

When confronted over the incident, Ms Fati – an activist for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) – said she had mistaken her for someone loyal to suspended NPP official, Sammy Crabbe:

I thought it was one of Sammy Crabbe’s women who wanted to take pictures of me. The lady did not look like a reporter. She resembled an onion seller.”

Her defence has left many unimpressed.
