Herdsmen killings: Edo APC berates PDP over money gift to victims families

                     APC & PDP
BENIN CITY —All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, yesterday, said Governor Godwin Obaseki will not be distracted with what it described as the “Greek gift¨ being given to some families of victims of herdsmen killings in the state by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The party regretted that the PDP was politicizing “the pains the families of the victims are passing through,” adding that the people of the state know the sincerity of the Obaseki-led administration to check the excesses of herdsmen, therefore, would not allow the governor to be distracted by the ¨antics of the PDP.”

While the state secretary of APC, Lawrence Okah described the criticisms and actions of the chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, who donated N200,000 to one of the families of victim of herdsmen killings as shameful, a chieftain of the APC, Mr Washington Osifo, said Chief Orbih was seeking relevance with his actions.

According Okah,“this is not supposed to be a political matter because it has to do with the lives of our people. But it is shameful that the PDP is going about giving money to some victims that is a Greek gift. When did Orbih become a father Christmas? For us as a party we will remain focused to fulfil our promises to Edo people and that is what the governor is doing.”

Corruption will return automatically if PDP wins in 2019 – Minister

Amaechi.jpgAmaechi says the PDP is hungry for money and not power.Amaechi says the PDP is hungry for money and not power.

The minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi says corruption would return automatically if the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) returns to power.

Speaking to Pulse correspondent and other journalists in Abuja on Thursday, February 15, 2018, Amaechi said the PDP is not hungry for power but money.

“If we don’t win, corruption will come back automatically,” Amaechi announced.

“The way it will come back because the people (PDP) are out, they have been out for four years. They have never been out of government before. PDP never left government so now they are hungry, not hungry for power.

“In fact if you tell them that I want to keep power and I will give you money, they will say take power and give us the money,” he added.

The minister said Nigerians expected too much from the Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

“The problem was expectation. In fact, the president got worried and he called me and said ‘Amaechi go and reduce the expectation’ and I said ‘Oga I’m not a magician’.

“If we are not borrowing to pay salaries, it means we are generating our own money. I hope Nigerians remember under the past government oil was at $110, $120. But when we came oil was $58 per barrel.

“The highest that we have gotten is the mistake that happened in the last two weeks that it rose to &70 or 80 after one day it came down to a little over $50, instantly,” the minister said.

Amaechi admitted that the APC has made some mistakes but expressed optimism that the party would deliver on its mandate to Nigerians if reelected.

“Are we perfect? No. Have we made mistakes? Yes. Can we overcome the mistakes, we have made? Yes. Can we surmount the challenges we met in the office? Yes. But again we need more than four years to do that,” Amaechi announced.

When asked if the President has appointed him as the director-general of his campaign, Amaechi said: “That question is for the President to answer not me”.

Nigeria has become nation of sorrow under Buhari – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party has stated that Nigerians are suffering under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government.

The Vice-Chairman of the party in the North-East, Emmanuel Njiwah, made this observation in Yola, on Wednesday.

According to him, Nigeria had become a nation of sorrow under the All Progressives Congress.

Njiwah belongs to the Senator Modu Sheriff faction of the party, which is locked in a bitter leadership struggle with the Senator Ahmed Makarfi faction.

The factional vice-chairman, who spoke while inaugurating the Adamawa State executive committee of the PDP led by Abdulrahman Bobboi, said the APC had devastated the economy.

He said, “Anybody with a plan for Nigeria cannot come into power and within the spate of a year, plunge the largest economy on the continent into recession.

“They have actually devastated the economy of Nigeria but they kept blaming the PDP. But the fact remains that as of May 29, 2015, Nigeria was the largest economy in Africa and as of May 2016, we have become a nation of sorrow.”

While presenting the 28-member Adamawa State chapter of the party with their certificates of return, Njiwah reiterated the determination of the PDP to reclaim power in 2019.

He said, “The PDP needs to come back. Is there anybody who is not suffering here? Those who voted them in and even we that didn’t vote them are suffering too. Our markets are not different. Our filling stations are not different. We are buying from the same markets.

“We want to buy a bag of rice for N7,000. We want to buy fuel at N87 per litre.”

A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Ali Gulak, who was chairman on the occasion, deplored the poor state of the economy under the APC-led Federal Government.

Earlier in June, Vice President,Yemi Osinbajo also admitted that there’s suffering in the land.

According to him, his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari meant well for the people of the country and thus needed the support and cooperation of Nigerians to bring the desired change.

Crude oil money buried in septic tanks under PDP – APC Woman leader

ALL Progressives Congress, APC, Woman Leader in Delta State, Dr. (Mrs.) Janet Oyubu, has urged Nigerians to allow President Muhammadu Buhari to work, saying the country did not make any reasonable achievement in the past 17 years because government officials secreted excess money realized from crude oil sales in septic tanks and private pockets.

Dr Oyubu, who spoke to Saturday Vanguard in an interview, said: “These are the things the present government is trying to correct and you do not solve problems by creating more problems.”

“The way President Buhari is steering the nation, tackling official corruption and all that, I see hope. Nigeria has a bright future under his watch, the America we see today is over 200 years old. You cannot compare someone running 55 to somebody running 500 years and above.

“I repeat the rate at which we are going shows that we are going to do better than the nations presently ahead of us. The developed countries also had their shortcomings before they got to where they are today. We are growing at a fast rate and looking for alternative means for dividends overnight. Remember we are the eyes of the black nation and we cannot do less,” she stated.

PDP responsible for renewed militancy in N-Delta

Dr. Oyubu opined that one of the immediate problems of PDP misrule, which the Presidency was doing everything to manage, was renewed militancy in Niger Delta region. Her words: “In actual fact, it is the problem of PDP we have been suffering from, these were part of the things that aggravated militants; it is a fact that the people from the region are not benefitting anything. We have feelings as mothers and the PDP- led government in the state should listen to voice of reason.”

She explained: “The most recognized militant group now is the Avengers and more are springing up from the three major ethnic groups, Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo in Delta state. The last two ethnic groups are saying if it is mainly dialogue, those of us, who are not talking will be left behind, maintaining that they all must be carried along.”

“However, do not forget that the militants are those agitating for the benefit of the region. Some are politically motivated and they want to benefit from what they are agitating, but some criminals also joined in perpetrating the act of criminality.

“Nevertheless, whether criminally minded or politically minded, they are agitating for the good of the region. We are all suffering shortage of income from the federal government, especially with the non-payment of salary, absence of infrastructure development like what is going on now.

Appeal to militants

“I therefore say that APC led government is trying to reclaim their campaign of palliatives to cushion the already created problems by the past government of the PDP,” she added.

Her words: “For instance, in Delta State, most of the palliative structures came from the Vice-President, Prof Yemi Osinbanjo’s office and they passed them through the state government, you can now see the PDP people jumping about President Buhari’s programme that it is their own making, whereas, they have nothing to offer from their PDP- led government. They are now hijacking the palliatives from APC in Delta state and claiming that they are cushioning the sufferings created by the APC- led government.”

“The militants should know that we are losing because you cannot destroy your own property. We should all come to a round table, down our tools so that Nigeria and the region can gain as well as cushioning the hardship we are going through.

“This is my appeal to the militants and I give kudos to the military because they have tried and they are still trying and willing to try the more. I do know that the military knows what is going on in the region and they do not want to add more hardship to what is going on in the region because the citizens are their relations, they are their people, and hence the military is treading softly,” she stated.

Dogara/Jibrin controversy

Commenting on the budget padding controversy involving the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, she said: “Really, it is not an offence in the context of accusation because budget has to go through several processes taking into account the laws of our land”

“However, the multi-million question now is how did an angel become a demon overnight? Hon. Abdulmumini Jibrin was the Head of Appropriation Committee at the House. All these accusations and counter accusations bring to light a malicious act in governance. President Muhammadu Buhari has ears to the ground, especially when he suspects a foul play. The same Hon Jibrin came on air to say there was nothing like that,” she added.

The political activist asserted: “Overnight, he is the same person, who cried loudest that there was padding all because of questions of who got what. Perhaps, Hon Dogara tried to assert his position as the leader of the House and questioning some acts that are not too transparent. Because of this, somebody is taking an offence and pointing finger.”

“That is why I asked that question; how Hon. Dogara, regarded an angel, yesterday, had suddenly become a demon today. It is the act of democratization and it means that APC is doing well; we are meticulous and the glory goes to God. They blew it open that the budget Mr. President signed is not the one under criticism; therefore, we believe in the president, we believe in our programme in APC and we believe that all is well.

Alleged Mrs. Buhari partisanship in Edo

Dr Oyubu said it was preposterous to say that the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, was meddling in the Edo state governorship election, adding: “I do not also see why she cannot throw her weight behind the man Oshiomhole has groomed to take over from him. There is nothing wrong if we display and support our own.”

Other govs should emulate Oshiomhole

“His supporters have not even been touched, he does not believe in emotion and sentiment; he believes in who can do the work better. Take the Edo State we are talking about for instance, I tell you that Governor Adams Oshiomhole has every reason to hold his head high because all the work he did are known to the common man, even the blind can feel it because the blind man can also feel bumps if he is going on the road.

“But, there are no longer bumps throughout Benin City and these and many others show that Governor Oshiomhole has worked. PDP was there before, unfortunately, we could not record anything they did. Edo state General hospital by Ring Road is like five- star hotel. Take for instance Uselu axis; where flood used to carry people, you do not even know now that you are driving through such a dangerous road, which used to be death trap in the past.

In fact, Oshiomhole has worked throughout the length and breadth of Edo State. It is not a question of President identifying with him, but he (Oshiomhole) has executed several projects all over the state. He increased workers’ salary; he does also not owe salary. Truly, he has indeed tried and we should commend his effort. He has also done well in the palliative programme, which all state governors should emulate,” she said.

APC govt has brought hardship on Nigerians —Delta PDP chair

ASABA —CHAIRMAN of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State, Mr Kingsley Esiso, yesterday, said that the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government has brought untold hardship on Nigerians.

Esiso, when he played host to PDP Patriotic Ladies in Asaba, urged the women to mobilise ahead of 2019 for the re-election of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and also vote out the APC at the federal level and other APC controlled states.

He said: “For about two years now, Nigerians have witnessed negative change that has brought injuries, hardship and high cost of living to them.  They came with the mantra of change that former President Goodluck Jonathan was not doing well but the reverse is now the case. We will endure till 2019 to change the change.”

APC’s failure has made PDP more relevant – Ciroma

Former Minister of Finance and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mallam Adamu Ciroma has said that the failure of the All Progressive Party to meet he expectation of Nigerians has made the Peoples Democratic Party revamp as it still dominate political discourse in the country.

Mallam Adamu Ciroma stated this in Abuja when members of the Board of trustees of the party visited him in his residence to ask him to intervene in the on going crisis in the party.

According to him, what has played out so far since the APC administration took over after winning the 2015 elections indicate that “PDP did not lose and APC did not win because APC has a lot to do. When you talk about politics you talk about PDP. When you talk of politics people talk about PDP as If APC does not exist. So far APC is not playing the right role.

“Just before the last elections and when we saw the trend of event, I warned members of the PDP to prepare itself for whatever eventuality that may come.

APC must play the right role. So far they have not played that right role.. PDP must be ready to catch on the mistakes of the APC” he said.

According to the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, politicians must learn to make the masses the centrepiece of their politics.

“Politics will aways be there” he said and “there must be good and bad people who participate in it. Everybody who participate in politics does so for good cause and that good cause is of the interest and political stability of all Nigerians.

“I insist that people must play the rightful role in politics and that role is to promote the interest of the poor masses. Anybody can make a mistake. The beauty of it is that every party that has a chance to rule has the chance to make mistakes.

” APC will make a lot of mistake and PDP must be ready to put things right and all of you must be ready to contribute participate and get involved for the interests of Ordinary Nigerians” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of the BoT,  Sen. Jibrin Wali who led other members of the board said their visit was part of their   strategies to visit well recognized founding fathers and leaders to tap from their wealth of experience to move the party forward.

According to him, leaders of the party should be careful with the utterances that they make in the public.

“I want to call on some of our leaders to be cautious of their statements and stop crying wolf where there is none. I want to note that the statement of the PDP senate caucus duly signed by the minority leader, senator Godswill Akpabio that the PDP senate caucus has never contemplated any move to impeach president Muhammadu Buhari is a statement that recognize them as progressive senators and portrayed our party as truly democratic and peace loving with a desire to cooperate with the ruling party members and president.

“Therefore any call to invite the national caretaker committee or the BoT to direct our respected members of the National Assembly not to impeach mr president is only going to over heat the polity because it has never been contemplated” he said.

Ekiti PDP raises questions over Aisha Buhari’s US trip, slams APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has described the comments by the State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), on the visit of the Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari to the United States of America (USA), as a function of total ignorance and

mischief, saying, “Even the Presidency has not told anyone that wife of the President travelled to the USA and in official communications, only ignorant and mischief makers in the APC will belief that a trip to the USA will be made by Mrs Buhari and Nigerians will only get to know about it through online media.”

The PDP, which said it would have ignored the APC and allowed those in the party to continue to wallop in their self-deceit, added that “it is only in the world of the APC that wife of the President of Nigeria, the most populous black nation in the world would travel to the USA, ostensibly to debunk her involvement in a major scam and no television station will report her departure and arrival. The question is, did she travel to USA or Qatar?”

In a statement issued on Monday by the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Jackson Adebayo, the party said, “If the Presidency has not been bold enough to tell Nigerians that Mrs Aisha Buhari travelled to the USA on official visit, only a party of scammers like the APC will go on the rooftops to celebrate photoshoped pictures as evidence of visit to USA.”

The party said “it is strange that wife of the President of Nigeria could travel to the USA and purportedly attended events there without international television stations like CNN, Al jazeera, BBC, Sky News etc and local stations like Channels TV, NTA, AIT and others reporting it. Or are they still ‘editing’ the video clips?”

While casting doubt at the purported trip, the PDP said: “Even if Mrs Aisha Buhari actually travelled to the USA, does that erase the fact that in the judgment delivered by the United State District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division, USA, in criminal No

1: 07CR209, that indicted the USA Congressman, Williams Jefferson, it was mentioned that $170,000 was transferred from account in Nigeria in the name of Aisha Buhari to an account in the name of The ANJ Group, LLC, identifying William Jefferson as beneficiary?”

The statement read further; “As a party of responsible and discerning minds, the PDP in Ekiti State would have elected to ignore the APC and allow the party the freedom to advertise it idiocy. This is more so that the matter is now a subject of litigation and the no one has denied the existence of the judgment that indicted Williams Jefferson and featured conspicuously at page 22, the name of Aisha Buhari as having transferred $170,000 from account in Nigeria to William Jefferson.

“Most importantly, Nigerians have witnessed more heinous forgeries from the APC, one of them being pictorial claim that President Buhari (as APC presidential candidate then) had an interview with Kemi Fadojutimi on ‘All Eyes on Africa’ TV show in London, whereas the

interview was held in Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

“However, it is important to point out that from all evidences, the pictures circulated as arrival of President Buhari’s wife at Dulles International Airport, Washington DC could have been taken at the Doha International Airport, Qatar. Even on the official website of George

Mason University and US Institute of Peace, USA where the president’s was said to have attended events, there is nothing to show that she attended any event in the two institutions.

“We have seen pictures of Wife of the Senate President, Toyin Saraki with President Barrack Obama’s wife, Michelle. We also saw pictures of Mrs Patience Jonathan with Michelle Obama when she visited the USA.

“Where are Aisha Buhari’s pictures with the First Lady of USA and major government officials from the country? Or could she have arrived and departed from the USA like a spirit?

“It is even more important that nothing official has been said about the purported trip. Not from the President’s spokespersons,” argued the Ekiti PDP.
